General Questions

No. Is the short answer.
Here at GW Plumbing and Heating we powerflush systems which are heated by Natural Gas, Lpg, Solid fuel, wood burners, oil fired, electric, groundsource heating and renewables. We also powerflush larger systems like office blocks and schools and sometimes never come into contact with the heating source in these buildings. You only need to be gas safe registered if you work on the gas installation part of a boiler, which when poweflushing you do not. We clean the radiators, pipework, controls and heat exchanger. But just as a guide please ensure your gas safe registered engineer is actually fully trained in powerflushing. GW Plumbing and Heating are fully trained powerflushing specialists.
• Quieter boiler due to removal of deposits on the the heat exchanger (noise commonly referred to as kettling)
• Hotter radiators and quicker warm up once the black sludge and any gas build up is removed
• Lower fuel bills due to increased system efficiency could save you up to 25% of your bills
• Longer lasting system and components - pumps and radiators will have an extended life where there is no corrosion and the suitable corrosion inhibitors are in place.
• Safer environment– system is cleaned as a sealed unit without taking all radiators off walls and risking damage to furniture etc
• Flushing a system with plain water will generally only remove 10% of debris, powerflushing will increase this to around 30% and powerflushing with chemical aid can increase this to as high as 95%.
This depends on your system, how badly blocked up it is and whether we have to undertake any other work before commencing the flush, during or afterwards. Unlike some companies we will not put a time limit on it and rush the job, but it will usually be completed within a day.
We will continue to flush your system until all areas and components are cleaned and functioning to recommended standards.
Yes - upon completion of the work we will issue you with a certificate confirming the cleanliness of your system and that the work we have done conforms to BS7593.
No - we increase the flow rate of the water through the system in order to move debris, but do not increase the pressure of the water.
On rare occasions powerflushing can expose a leak but this only if a problem already exists (such as the debris in the system is covering a pin hole in a radiator). In these cases the leak would have happened eventually anyway. Should this happen we will be able to deal with the problem while we are on site so would be better than this happening at another, less convenient time. We will be able to assess the system during our preflush visit and should be attempt to spot any potential risk areas.
